Inside the Afghanistan War

Missing so much information
Essentially what this movie does is give a very quick and brief over view of some major battles that have taken place over the course of the Afghan war. It does such a poor job of taking you "inside" the war and what has been going on over the last decade. For example, it briefly goes over the story of what happened to Marcus Luttrell and his unit during Operation Redwing, but doesn't even mention them by name or the name of the operation. That was a pretty significant event and this movie talked about it for a very brief 2 minutes. They did a very poor job covering Operation Anaconda as well as other very large and important battles that have taken place. Had I not already read and watched so many other good pieces on the war, I wouldn't have learned a whole lot from this just because its so poorly put together. If you really want to learn more about what this war check out the following books etc. Most of these stories and a lot of people/authors were covered in this movie but it...

a good insight
this is one of the best documentaries i have seen on the war in Afghanistan, no holds barred as near to the enemy as you would want to be, National Geographic are masters at producing edge of your seat truthful and informing programmes, i would recommend this DvD to anybody interested in knowing how the war in Afghanistan has evolved over the last ten years.

Disappointing--lacking depth
I wanted to like this Nat'l Geographic special on the Afghan War but it was disappointing. The interviews with the soldiers are just awesome and you feel so amazed at their bravery & service. But the video gives the viewer virtually no background information on the history of Afghanistan the country, and how many times it has been invaded by outside forces (the British, the Russians and now the US), all of which have failed. I also wanted to know more about the Taliban and the structure of the tribal society of the country but none of that was really covered in the video. NGH normally does great documentaries, but I would not recommend this DVD to anyone based on what it leaves out--not what it includes which is well done.

Queen - Mercury Rising

Another great DVD on the legendary Queen
I've been on a Queen binge now for the last few months. I can't believe that I never heard one of their songs on the radio until 1981. They are truly the most underrated band in rock history. This DVD provided some background info that I hadn't heard before, so that alone makes it worth the purchase for me. Their concert DVDs are extraordinary, especially the concerts in Budapest (excellent sound and video), Montreal, Wembley, and Live Aid.

queen-mercury rising
liked it a lot because there are not many dvd's that zero in on Freddie mercury. it is a short documentary. I have seen some of the clips of this on other dvd's. I think days of our lives and Freddie mercury-the great pretender were better and went into more depth. bottom line is, I do not think anyone will ever truly know Freddie except for the roger, brian, john, and mary.

Freddie Mercury
I loved it. Freddie Mercury is the greatest front man in the history of music. Queen still lives on and will forever. RIP Freddie.

Protect Your Memory With Dr Neal Barnard

Excellent
As a medical professional I appreciate the summary of good research that back up his conclusions. For all of us concerned about our aging brains this gives us something to do to prevent the loss of brain functioning.

Vital information
I first saw this presentation on TV, then decided to order it and have since shared it with our children. Lifestyle changes that are based on facts are worth the effort. I've proved that some time ago, so appreciate this information.

Critical reading
We all are aware of how fragile our minds are and if we don't take care of them, we are letting in the elements that can/will cause our minds to begin to fail, rapidly. This is an excellent book along with Dr. Daniel Amen's books.

Ultrachrist!

Toothless "satire"
A "Jesus" with a whiny Brooklyn accent arrives nude in New York City (a'la "The Terminator") and has trouble getting his message to today's youth. So he puts on a spandex superhero costume and fights Jim Morrison, Dracula, Hitler and a guy in a Richard Nixon rubber mask. Then he changes the commandments to encourage casual sex to gain converts.

Let me state that I am far from religious and love a good satire, like "Election" or "American Psycho". This is too dumb and scatological to be satire. The video and audio (especially) are sub-porno quality. If you ARE deeply religious you may be offended, otherwise you will be very bored. Check out "The Life of Brian" for a religious satire with bite.

Let's Throw Sin A Curve ...
Look! Up in the sky! It's a bird! It's a plane! It's ...ULTRACHRIST!

Flipping religion on its head, Ultrachrist seeks to enlighten the follies of following scripture to the letter by returning Christ to Earth 2,000 years after his death. Oh! And he's come back to usher in peace for all mankind. The trouble is that he's completely out of touch with modern society. As soon as Christ returns to Earth (ala The Terminator style), he realizes many things have changed: clothes, personal philosophy, neon signs, and, oy!, religion.

Christ (Jonathan C. Green) gets a crash course in what the world wants by first bellying up to a bar with a drunken man and discovering what's become of humanity. Discouraged but not deterred, he soon runs into Molly (Celia A. Montgomery), a young seamstress who falls for Jesus and decides to help him regain his ministry on Earth. She makes him a superhero spandex costume and poof!, the Ultrachrist is born. Running around New York in his new...

Get Ready for a Whole New CHRIST
This movie is amazing. I saw it at the Philidelphia Video Festival last year. Jesus comes back to fight sin in the twenty-first century and encounters a world much different then the way he left it 2000 years ago. Watch him fight the greatest sinners of all time: Richard Nixon, Adolf Hitler, Vlad the Impaler and Jim Morrison.

Magic Valley

Extremely morose.
Slow, depressing and morbid. This is not a movie that provides introspection, illuminates, or uplifts. Quite the opposite. An "art film?" Perhaps. I give it a big "Who Cares."

"Magic Valley"
Very good story and great acting by Scott Glenn. Good sound and editing. A bit slow but Magic Valley was the first feature film by this director. I believe Jaffe Zinn also did the script for this film and the budget was miminal. Story should be seen by teen agers to view the danger that can be realized by the "choking game" which I understand is quite common in teen agers.

Depressing waste of time, film and talent
What a depressing, poorly filmed, poorly acted and directed film. Quality at all levels was worse than a home-movie shock-factor done by strung-out kids who don't understand drama, timing, plot, tension, or even the basics of how to tell a story.

Restraint, Control & Come-A-Long Techniques: Effective Arrest & Control Techniques for Law Enforcement and Security Professionals Volume 2

An Excellent Supplement to Your Martial Arts Training!
Restraint, Control and Come-A-Long Techniques Vol. 2 is an excellent instructional DVD! It does just take up where volumn 1 left off, but adds even more great tips and inside instruction that many other DVD's don't include such as how to spin a person and autogenic breathing techniques. It is obvious that this instructor is a teacher, a true martial arts instructor. This DVD includes a thumb grab goose neck technique, split finger goose neck lock, fingers behind the back hold, over the top chicken wing lock, a four corner throw, figure four lock, how to roll over someone once you have control, and even covers pressure points. Put together with Vol. 1, this is an excellent way to supplement your training and learn the correct way to use these techniques.

This DVD is very well-shot and easy to learn from. Mr. Burrese walks you through each technique, step by step, giving you clear and easy-to-understand instructions. His presentation is wonderful, clear and easy to follow...

5 Star Winner for Burrese
Burrese has already produced a very successful series of instructional DVDs. His newest two volume set entitled, Restraint, Control & Come-A-Long Techniques is another 5 star winner. Burrese covers relevant principles for the application of the expertly demonstrated and described techniques. He presents them at full speed and in slower and up close instruction so that details of the techniques can be clearly seen, grasped and learned by the viewer. Burrese also stresses repetition practices with a partner and multiple partners so that the execution of the techniques can be utilized instinctively with surprise, speed and technical accuracy. Lastly, he emphasizes the necessity of physical conditioning, mental preparation, situational awareness, self control and the use of breathing exercises as a method to keeping your cool. I highly recommend this two volume set without hesitation.

Good stuff
Burrese has a done great job presenting his go-to techniques for law enforcement and security professionals. What makes his techniques especially valuable is that he has used them repeatedly over his years working doors, body guarding, and stadium security.

The presentation is organized nicely and presented clearly, with lots of examples as to how to apply the techniques in a variety of situations. As always, Burreese's explanations are clear and informative as to how to ensure the techniques work for you, as well as how to modify them a little when the situation requires it.

I think the material is especially valuable to the many types of security professionals. For law enforcement officers, my only quibble is that some of the techniques - not all - would require an additional move to position the hands for handcuffing.

I've been teaching defensive tactics to cops and security people since 1973. I think Alain Burrese has done a wonderful job in this...
